MOOCs, Massive Open Online Courses, clearly define a future of lifelong learning and education which is accessible to everyone, everywhere. EPFL was one of the first universities to experiment with MOOCs on its campus, integrating them into its own educational system. By spending time and resources over the last three and a half years developing its MOOC program EPFL has achieved a massive global reach. It now boasts a 1-million strong “global campus” with over 180 nationalities. Now EPFL wants to share its experience, knowledge and tools with you in this three-day MOOC-CAMP.
The EPFL MOOC camp prepares you for all aspects of MOOC implementation: strategy, course development and technical construction. It gives you the basic tools necessary to develop MOOCs within your current role: whether you are an executive thinking about implementing a MOOC strategy in your organization, a teacher/trainer wanting to develop your own MOOC, or a technical specialist responsible for the technical infrastructure for MOOC’s. MOOC camp will provide an intensive experience, tailored to the specialized nature of your role.
Participation – on invitation only – is for executives, course developers, teachers and technical specialists that are responsible for MOOC strategy, MOOC development or the technical infrastructure for MOOC production.
The maximum number of participants is 30.

Whether your organization offers online / face-to-face training and you’re looking to attain a wider reach or you’re looking to implement a training and education program, this workshop will help guide you through the processes involved. We will cover and range of topics and answer key questions like: What is involved in the development and implementation of MOOCs? Why and how did EPFL transition from face-to-face programs to MOOCs? What are the benefits of MOOCs over other online learning formats? What impact and value do MOOCs have?
Attendees can anticipate a robust program featuring presentations providing detailed and in-depth information from EPFL’s MOOC Factory and round table sessions where best cases are discussed. The MOOC camp will equip you with the necessary tools to take your training and education programs to the next level.
You are a professor or teacher thinking about developing your own MOOC, you have ample experience in the classroom and face-to-face education and now you want to attain wider reach, or improve your current courses by offering online content to your students. The course developers’ program is developed to support you in the design of your MOOC.
In groups of up to 10 participants, you’ll gain insights into the latest developments in course design, online platforms, online testing and assignments, video production and more. The sessions combine theory with interactive assignments where you will work with experts and experienced designers on developing the blueprint of your own MOOC and recording your first video lecture.
You work as an analyst for an educational institute or a consultancy organization that supports companies in the development and implementation of their education and training strategy. It is your responsibility to advise on evidence-based best practices in (online) training and education. This MOOC camp concentrates on what MOOC data on online learners and activities can be collected, how these can be analyzed and visualized, and how this data can help improve organizational decision making, marketing of MOOCS and the teaching process. You’ll leave with a better understanding of how MOOC big data and learning analytics can help realize your organizations’ educational mission.
Attendees will get information on the latest developments and technologies, get hands on experience with collection, integration, analysis and visualisation of MOOC data, and can bring their own projects, examples and data to work on. They will work in small groups under supervision of EPFL experts.
